Funk and Fun at The 2008 ISPAs
Terry Alderton and Ronnie Scott’s regular at the awards
Terry Alderton, the host for The 2008 ISPAs, has had a varied career. He was once goalkeeper for Southend, a star of ITV’s London’s Burning and a Perrier Award nominee and presenter of BBC’s lottery programme Red Alert. Now he’s Virgin Media’s “Mr Sheepskin” on their football portal.
He is known as a riot of exuberant, loose-limbed physical comedy, extraordinary caricatures and stunningly acute impressions. Combining a fearless on-stage presence, unshakable confidence and streetwise hyperactive delivery, Terry leaves his audience exhilarated and exhausted with laughter.
Ronnie Scott’s regular Natalie Williams will be performing with her function band friends after the ceremony. Although receiving wide acclaim for her Nu Jazz albums, Natalie’s appearances at Ronnie Scott’s on the Soul Family Sundays and with the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars make her a contemporary jazz legend. Natalie will be belting out some funky favourites for revelers at
The ISPAs from her influences.
Don't miss out and book your tickets NOW.
The Mechanics of Collaborative Message Filtering
Neil Cook, VP of Technology Services EMEA, Cloudmark
Vipul’s Razor, developed by Vipul Ved Prakash in 1998 as an open source product, was the world’s first collaborative spam filtration network for messaging security. Today, Cloudmark commercial messaging security solutions leverage the original premise of Vipul’s Razor, namely, reputation-based collaborative reporting of spam and highly sophisticated fingerprinting algorithms. While sharing the same design principles as Razor, Cloudmark Authority offers a wider range of fingerprinting algorithms for broader threat coverage and provides the fast processing performance required for carrier implementations.
Collaborative filtering of spam, where members of a community identify and vote on spam messages and where the “reputation” of the members in correctly identifying spam is continually rated, can be effectively coupled with an automated system of message fingerprinting to deliver highly accurate and fast detection of spam, email-borne viruses, and phishing. In other words, collaborative human intelligence ‘identifies’ a message as spam and an automated technology verifies and prevents its proliferation.
The highly flexible architecture Cloudmark Authority provides a framework for changes to fingerprinting algorithms and adjustments to security protocols, enabling easy system adaptation to evolving or new threats. Unlike rules or heuristic-based schemes that require continuous updates and entail intensive processing, fingerprinting algorithms automatically generate lightweight fingerprints that accurately identify messaging abuses and their variants. Furthermore, subsequent algorithms to combat new classes of threats can be easily integrated without the need for system re-architecture.

A Showcase of Help for ISPs
Services promoted via The ISPAs
Help with content delivery, advertising revenue, Trans-Atlantic connectivity and business opportunities are some of the services offered by companies that chose to sponsor
The 2008 ISPAs in February.
Managing high bandwidth content services is likely to prove increasingly difficult for Internet service providers.
PeerApp is a leading supplier of Intelligent Media Caching solutions for Internet Service Providers. PeerApp solutions cache and accelerate content delivery including P2P and HTTP downloads and video streams. PeerApp products allow ISPs to meet the bandwidth and service quality challenges of the Video Internet and satisfy the demand from their subscribers. PeerApp products also enable all ISPs to support subscriber growth and enable new revenue-generating services. PeerApp will be sponsoring the Best Dial-Up category.
It’s been recognised that rural/coastal areas can feel disadvantaged in terms of broadband and connectivity.
NYnet represents one of Europe’s largest public sector led, open access, broadband infrastructure initiatives to overcome the issue. This carrier class core and access network offers an exciting proposition for service providers wishing to make an early impact on the expanding markets opened up by next generation broadband services. Yorkshire Forward is a stakeholder of NYnet and there is potential for grant incentives to Service Providers wishing to establish a presence in North Yorkshire. For Service Providers wishing to sell services to business, Yorkshire Forward is keen to invest in specific support activity aimed at increasing uptake. NyNet is sponsoring the Best Wireless ISP category.
It’s important to get the best value for money from investment in Trans-Atlantic connectivity. The
Hibernia Atlantic network provides European and US customers with direct Trans-Atlantic connectivity, at competitive prices, with unparalleled support and service. It’s redundant rings include access to Dublin, Manchester, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Paris, New York City, White Plains, Stamford, Newark, Ashburn, Boston, Albany, Halifax, Montreal and more. Hibernia provides dedicated Ethernet and optical level service up to
GigE, 10G and LanPhy wavelengths and traditional Sonet/SDH services. Hibernia Atlantic's cutting-edge network technology allows enterprise customers, carriers and wholesale customers reliable, next-generation bundled services at affordable prices. Hibernia Atlantic is sponsoring the Best Business Email category.
Whilst the online advertising market continues to boom, ISPs haven’t really made much progress to tapping into the huge revenue of the sector that relies on them.
NebuAd is transforming the online advertising industry with the first consumer-centric behavioral targeting network. Through its unique technology and ISP partnerships, NebuAd combines web-wide consumer visibility with micro-targeted ads delivered at the right time in the buying cycle. This network-level approach enables behavioral targeting to finally attain its true promise of a greater scale of impressions, and greater relevance to drive increased revenue per impression. NebuAd is leading advertisers, publishers and ISPs to a new level of behavioral advertising effectiveness – and all the while having a high regard for consumer privacy. Nebuad is sponsoring the Best Portal category.
And the reliability of
CI-Net can hardly be questioned as they have graciously sponsored the Internet Villain category yet again. CI-Net started life as Oxford Community Internet in 1996 and was one a handful of
business-focussed ISPs. The company has evolved to become a major player in the provision of fully managed Wide Area Networks and IP services. Its core competence is the deployment and management of IP infrastructure to support a business’s individual needs.
If your business offers services, support or help for ISPs, you should sponsor a category at
The 2009 ISPAs. Contact the ISPA
press office or telephone 020 7609 1907 and say, “I want to help ISPs.”
